Covered courts sit in the gap between indoor and outdoor, and in Malaysia that gap turns out to be exactly the right place to be. A roof stops both the rain and the direct sun. Open sides let the breeze through, which is what actually makes a hot day tolerable.
Players often assume indoor is the premium option and covered is the compromise. In practice, on a still 32°C afternoon, a covered court with cross-ventilation is more comfortable than a sealed hall with ceiling fans.

The one condition where covered courts lose is haze. Open sides mean open to particulates, so during a bad haze episode an enclosed indoor hall is the safer choice, air-conditioned if you can get it.
Malaysia's covered courts are largely conversions, and that history shapes the experience. Rooftop car parks — Let's Pickleball at The Starling Mall is the clearest example — already have a deck, a roof structure and lighting, which makes them cheap to convert and unusually convenient.
Purpose-built covered courts, like the covered half of Pickle Social Club at Bukit Kiara, are a different proposition: proper acrylic surfaces, correct run-off space, and lighting designed for the sport rather than for parking. You pay for the difference.
Check the run-off
Converted spaces sometimes have pillars, kerbs or low ceilings close to the baseline. Ask about clearance behind the baseline if you play a deep, driving game — it changes what shots are safe.
Use an outdoor ball. Covered courts have enough airflow that an indoor ball — lighter, softer, 26 larger holes — will drift on a serve or a high dink. The harder outdoor ball holds its line. This is the single most common mistake players make when moving between formats, and it is covered fully in the ball guide.

For most of the year, yes. Covered courts stay cooler than unconditioned indoor halls thanks to cross-ventilation, while still keeping rain off. The exception is haze season, when enclosed indoor courts are the safer choice.
Pickle Social Club at Bukit Kiara has four covered courts alongside four outdoor ones. Zebra Square in Kampung Pandan and ESM Pickter Arena at Universiti Malaya also offer covered play. In Selangor, Let's Pickleball on The Starling Mall rooftop is the best-known covered venue.
Yes. The roof keeps the playing surface dry. Heavy wind-driven rain can wet the edges of an open-sided court, so check the surface near the sidelines before playing at full pace.
An outdoor ball. Covered courts have enough airflow to move a lighter indoor ball off line, especially on serves and high dinks. Outdoor balls are harder and heavier and hold their trajectory.
