Indoor courts keep out rain and haze, but very few in Malaysia are actually air-conditioned. Here is every indoor venue and what the temperature is really like inside.

"Indoor" is the most misread word in Malaysian court listings. Overseas it implies climate control. Here it usually means a roofed hall with walls, no air-conditioning, and a temperature that climbs steadily through an evening session as bodies and lighting add heat to still air.
That is not a criticism — indoor halls are the only venues that stay playable during haze season and monsoon downpours. But go in knowing which kind of indoor you are booking.
Ask one question before you book
"Is the hall air-conditioned or fan-ventilated?" Venues answer this honestly and it will change your session more than the court surface will.

Air-conditioning a sports hall in Malaysia is expensive, so venues that do it charge for it. Play! Pickleball in Tanjung Bungah, Penang is fully air-conditioned across its indoor courts. Hyprground in PJ Seksyen 19 runs climate control on its premium tier. Beyond those, assume fan ventilation.
If heat is a genuine problem for you — and for players over fifty or anyone managing a heart condition it often is — consider covered courts instead. A roof with open sides frequently plays cooler than a sealed unconditioned hall.

If you play more than twice a week, surface becomes the deciding factor. Concrete is fine occasionally and punishing as a habit. This is also why your shoe choice matters — a gum-sole indoor shoe on sprung timber is a genuinely different experience from running shoes on concrete.
Indoor pickleballs have 26 larger holes, weigh slightly less and are softer than outdoor balls. On an indoor court an outdoor ball is loud, fast and skids off the surface. On an outdoor court an indoor ball floats in the wind. Read the full ball comparison before you buy a tube.

Covered courts — a roof with open sides — usually suit the Malaysian climate best, combining rain protection with airflow. Indoor halls are essential during haze season and heavy rain. Outdoor courts are excellent before 10am and after 5pm.
You can, but it plays badly. Outdoor balls are harder, heavier and have 40 smaller holes, making them fast and loud indoors. Indoor balls have 26 larger holes and a softer feel suited to indoor surfaces.

Very well. A pickleball court is almost the same size as a badminton doubles court, so conversion is straightforward, and sprung badminton flooring is easier on joints than concrete. Several Malaysian venues, including Cheras Badminton Academy, do exactly this.
